What do we do?

When we go to the shelters, we do A LOT of cleaning! This involves sweeping, mopping, scooping litter, scrubbing walls, cleaning food and water dishes, etc. We also help out in other ways, sometimes folding laundry, refilling food, and walking dogs (this requires special training), but making sure that we do whatever the shelter needs us to do.

Of course, at the end of the day we always leave time for playing and hanging out with the animals.

How do I sign up?

Determining who gets to go to the shelters is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a set number of people that are allowed to come to each shelter since each shelter has specific needs and are different sizes. There will be a Google Form sent out early each week for people to sign up. The forms are sent out at different times each week so people that may have conflicts when the form is sent out have a chance to sign up a different week. Typically, slots fill up quickly, so filling out the Google Form as quickly as possible is recommended if you want to go.

The list of people who will be going to the shelters will be sent out later in the week.

How do I get to the shelters?

We carpool to each of the shelters, so if you don’t have a car it won’t be a problem. Carpools are picked up in front of Mohawk if you live on campus and in front of UDC if you live downtown. The carpool list will be in the email listing who is going to the shelter.

When do you go?

Generally we go to Project Paw and Animal Care Council on Saturday’s at the same time, from 9am-11am and we go to the Humane Society and Willow’s Wings on Sundays from 8am-10am and 8am-12pm, respectively. This means you should only sign up for one shelter a day when filling out the Google Form as you can’t be in two places at once.
