Shelters Overview

Project Paw

Project Paw is a cat shelter in Binghamton, NY that was established over 40 years ago and is run by volunteers. A typical morning at Project Paw would include sweeping and mopping the floors, scrubbing the walls, shaking out and replacing the blankets, and sorting newspaper. It usually takes our volunteers about an hour and a half to finish cleaning.

Broome County Humane Society

BCHS is a rescue shelter in Binghamton, NY that is registered under the national Humane Society. They have both dogs and cats at this shelter. We begin our mornings in the cat rooms, sweeping and mopping the floors, emptying litter boxes, cleaning surfaces, replacing blankets, food, and water. If we have time after we finished the cat rooms, we are allowed to walk dogs, but this requires special training by an e-board member before a volunteer is able to do it themselves. It usually takes our volunteers about two hours to finish cleaning.

Willow’s Wings

Willow’s Wings is an animal sanctuary that rescues animals that have been left abandoned, neglected, and abused. There are all kinds of animals, including pigs, dogs, cats, horses, birds, and donkeys! However, we usually work in the barn to clean and muck stalls. If you are on the pre-vet track we especially recommend volunteering here as you are able to get exotic animal hours. This sanctuary is based out of Willow’s home so we always ask our volunteers to be on their absolute best behavior! We usually spend about four hours at Willow’s in order to get everything done.
